The Italian language
has given us a number of words related to food, some of which cannot
be translated, others which have been adapted to other languages.
Among the main ones are, together with an English translation,
where there is one.
We cannot really speak of Italian cooking in
the same way we speak of French haute cuisine, but instead we can
speak of several regional Italian styles of cooking which have
become known over the entire Peninsula thanks to the unification
of Italy.
Maybe the best example is Pizza, which was at
first a dish from Campania, but which spread over the whole country
and eventually became known over the entire world. |
