The Italian language in Europe
Besides being spoken in Italy, Italian is also spoken in:

Switzerland: in Canton Ticino and in the valleys of Misox (Calanca), Bergell (Bregaglia) and Poschiavo in Canton Graubuenden (Grisons). San Marino: A small republic in the Emilia-Romagna region. The Vatican: an Independent state in Rome. |

In most, but not all of these countries, Italian is recognised as an official language.
There are approximately 66 million speakers of the Italian language in the world. Italian or its dialects is spoken by Italians and their descendants who emigrated to Canada, the USA, Brazil, Argentina and Australia.
